CBD has a lot of benefits, and if you’re reading this blog, there’s a good chance you’re already familiar with some of them. That said, we understand there’s a lot of confusion still surrounding CBD, which is why we wanted to do our best to provide some useful information.
Below, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions we get about CBD: can CBD get you high, what can it be used to treat, how different is it from medical marijuana, and why don’t we have a better understanding of its potential benefits?
Can CBD Get You High?
No. CBD doesn’t have any of the components of marijuana that would get you high. While marijuana has many components, the two major ones are THC and CBD. THC is what gets you high, but CBD has been linked to a myriad of other benefits that we’ll discuss below.
What Can CBD Be Used to Treat?
There are two major issues that CBD is well-suited to address: anxiety and insomnia.
Researchers suspect that CBD is useful for addressing anxiety because it can help you better regulate the levels of serotonin in your brain. While regulating serotonin levels is also useful for treating depression, the research on CBD’s effect on depression is less conclusive.
The fact that CBD treats anxiety is in and of itself useful for treating insomnia, since anxiety can often keep you up at night. However, its effect on your endocannabinoid system also helps you get a better night’s sleep.
Smoking CBD or taking CBD tinctures are both good ways for taking CBD if you want to treat anxiety or insomnia.
Though this isn’t applicable to the general population, we’re also happy to say that CBD is incredibly effective at helping treat the severe cases of childhood epilepsy that can’t be treated with anti-seizure medication.
What is the Difference Between CBD and Medical Marijuana
While both CBD and medical marijuana have palliative benefits, medical marijuana contains THC. CBD does not. This means that medical marijuana can get you high, while CBD will not. It also means that medical marijuana’s legality varies depending on what state you live in. CBD, on the other hand, is legal in all 50 states.
What Studies Are Currently Being Done on The Health Benefits of CBD?
The truth is, it’s only recently that researchers have been permitted by the government to explore CBD’s many health benefits. For this reason, there are a number of studies that are currently underway to determine what CBD can and cannot help.
A lot of promising research has been done regarding CBD’s ability to address chronic pain, for instance. It’s specifically useful for neuropathic and inflammatory pain, which we don’t currently have many other ways of addressing.
